ABOUT THE ARTIST

Granville ‘Danny’ Clarke was born in Keighley, Yorkshire, raised in Barnsley and studied at Barnsley College of Art. He went on to develop a successful musical career as a songwriter/musician before returning to pursue his passion for art and poetry.

His first one-man exhibition was in 1977 in Essex, inspired by the coastal estuaries with their flat landscapes and magnificent sunsets.

He became well known for his watercolour snow scenes before travelling the world as an art lecturer on P&O Cruises. He expanded his art, preferring to work on large canvases with space to depict the translucent qualities of land and seascapes and architecture.

A keen environmentalist, he was presented to HRH the Prince of Wales in 1991 for his contribution to the National Environment Awards having donated his Tree and Wildflower Conservation collection to the Whale and Dolphin Society.

He is an elected Member of the Yorkshire Watercolour Society and in 1997 was invited to become a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. He is listed in ‘Who’s Who in the Arts’ 1998. His first national television series further confirmed his distinguished career.

Danny’s ‘CLARKE COLOURS YORK’ Art video will be available this Autumn.
